Story

Malik's Story.

YMCA Exeter resident Malik, had never thought about entering a long-distance race before. But with encouragement from YMCA support staff, Malik completed his first-ever 10k run in just over an hour!

The money raised from the Great West Run 2022 went to the development of our new move-on housing 'Sidwell Studios' for young people journeying to independence after experiencing homelessness or mental health challenges. Coming full circle, since Great West Run, Malik now lives in Sidwell Studios, having played a huge part in raising funds for the development to be completed:

"I used to have my own flat in London, but problems with my mental health meant I ended up being evicted. It's been a few years but it's really good to move into Sidwell Studios. It's so nice to have my own space. I can even see the football stadium from my window."

Your donation can help young people like Malik find a safe, settled home and support to get back on track.
