Story
Hi everyone!
We hope you all are keeping safe and doing well – both mentally and physically – given all that is currently happening in the world.
We’re sure that most of you are aware of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen. For those of you who don’t, as we speak, 80% of the Yemeni population (over 24 million people) are in dire need of humanitarian aid. That is 80% of the country’s population who, amidst the ongoing armed conflict, economic decline, displacement, and disease, are left without even the most basic necessities including healthcare, water and sanitation, food and homes. With COVID-19 entering the picture, the situation continues to worsen. Only half of the country’s medical facilities are functioning, and even these lack basic facilities like masks and gloves.
We’ve started this fundraiser because we felt that with all the recourses currently being circulated, it was overwhelming figuring out where we should start. Plus, we were sure that if the 5 of us spread this link amongst our circles, they shared it with theirs and so on, we could easily raise enough money to make even a slight difference. That’s why we wanted to start the “DONATE £5, TAG 5” challenge (somewhat maybe inspired by the run 5, donate 5 challenge that was circulating earlier), where if you are tagged, you donate £5 (or more or less), you tag 5 of your friends, and the cycle (hopefully) continues.
Anything you donate will go directly to Islamic Relief, who is currently on the ground in 17 of Yemen 22 governorates, providing essential food aid to families at risk of famine and facing extensive food insecurity. Read more about their work here: https://www.islamic-relief.org.uk/yemen-emergency-appeal/
With your support, we can help these communities in their hour of need. Whether or not you want to take part in our challenge, we'd appreciate all the help we can get (whether that be through you donating, simply sharing this link, or both). Thank you.
