Story

Children with Cancer UK

Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation

The smile that was as bright as the sunshine, the most kindest soul and the uplifted spirit that lit the room up. Our Sammy.

Sammy Jo Brandon lost her battle with triple negative breast cancer at the age of 29.

8/8/88 - 14/5/18

In February 2018 Sammy and her family received the devastating news that the cancer had returned to her brain and lungs and she only had weeks to live. Over them following weeks Sammy put plans in place involving creating memories with family and friends and bravely her funeral.

Sammy Jo had always wanted Children of her own, she loved children, but that’s no surprise with how much of a beautiful person she was inside and out, but knowing she couldn’t have children would upset her so much. It would break her heart that children were battling cancer like herself and the horrible effects that came with the treatment, and that’s how the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation came about.

Sammy wanted money to be raised at her funeral and she said all the money raised must go to Children with Cancer Uk.

£6485 was raised at Sammy’s funeral and handed to Children with Cancer.

I had the privilege to meet and make friends with sammy just from doing the job I love and that’s DJ’in. She would always be the one saying “play this song and this son” and i would just too see her dancing and happy. She would call me her “No1 DJ Yazzy Fizzle” and I would crack up. The last time I saw Sammy she done this turn around dance and she span in to a table and was laughing her head off. That’s the Sammy we all know and loved. She knew she had cancer, she knew she was going to die but she never let that take away her spirit and that’s what makes our Sammy someone very special.

After Sammy’s funeral her family set up the Sammy Jo Brandon foundation in memory of Sammy and for all money raised to be donated to Children with Cancer UK.

What an amazing job they have done so far! And still continue to do.

Sammy’s mum and dad, her family, Boyfriend, best friends and friends and even people who didn’t know Sammy are doing all they can too keep such a courages ladies wishes too continue.

So what can I do to help I thought. I spoke with Children with Cancer UK and the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation and told them I was going too run for the 5th year the Race For Life 2019 on the 6th July at London Victoria Park. I’ve done this for so many years but for every cancer. But this year I’ve chosen too run for Sammys Foundation in action too raise money and awareness of children with cancer U.K.

I have personally had a battle with cancer, my god son Connor passed away at Great Ormond St hospital aged just 11months old from a huge terminal brain tumour. They gave us days, it ended that night. Following this his mother, my best friend, sadly took her life from the pain.

The Essex / Dagenham community has also been recently effected by Micky Bennett’s battle with cancer which sadly he passed away from after a long hard fight. Along with Damary Dawkins who again lost his life through cancer at such young ages. (Both will be on my back)

So if you can, please do come along, join, or just raise some money and awareness and please share my story.

Lots of love too everyone, Yasmin.

Sammy I will try my hardest too do you proud and your family. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten amongst all of our other fallen angels from cancer. I will do this, and I will raise what I can knowing I will make your wishes come true.
