Story
No one should feel like they are experiencing and dealing with grief alone. Especially children.
My cousin, Raj, was diagnosed with advanced cancer and as someone close to him and his family, I was able to witness firsthand the emotional distress that his family went through. Throughout his treatment, not only did he progressively worsen health-wise, but his sister specifically became alienated from his family and would often be so overcome with sadness and grief that she could not even bear to see her own brother. Had there been an educational guide during this time, the distress that Raj’s family went through could have been averted.
So, today, I ask that you donate to the Ray of Hope for Grieving Children fund at Phoebe Foundation. We will be purchasing resources for Phoebe Hospice to distribute to children that have lost a loved one. It will be used primarily to fund books about how to cope with grief, the loss of a parent, and the best course of action for families and children during the end of life stage of a parent or family member. Each book would be specific to the age of the child as growing children need different forms of advice and support depending on what stage they are in life. Also, workbooks, memory albums, and forms of recording memories with their late parents can also be funded using money that is raised.
“The death of a loved one leaves a hole in your heart that will never completely go away, but with the help of caring people it will become smaller.” – Darren, 17
