Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am a friend of child burns survivors like Dorah, who in the photo above, is next to me on a boat by the Thames Barrier in London. I want to raise money so that they can continue to get the best reconstructive surgery possible, to rebuild their lives. Please help me to do so.

I am planning a fundraising walk around London which will visit many Medical Monuments. By celebrating the nurses, pharmacists, physicians, surgeons, scientists, of yesteryear, I hope that people will never forget the efforts and sacrifices of yesterday's heroes who allow us to live healthier safer happier lives now in the 21st century.

I know London, I know Johannesburg. The children that Children of Fire helps, come from both places and indeed, from right across Africa. They are from terribly poor families and one-in-three of them has been burned intentionally.

I am a friend of Perlucia (11) who has lent me her Just Giving page. She has been helped by Children of Fire for more than 7 years, especially with brilliant reconstructive surgery in East Grinstead. I hope that in 2020 she will be able to continue to restore function to her flame-damaged hands.

My walk will be about 20km long but I am going to walk it at least five times in late 2019 and/or early 2020 as I am also trying to pioneer a new fundraising route for the charity that more people can walk probably on the first Saturday of September 2020.

These children need help. They need holes in their skulls to be closed. They need melted-together fingers separated. They need reconstructed noses. They need help from primary school up til tertiary education. They need psychological help and vocational skills.

Some need rescuing from negligent relatives. Some need protecting from misguided social workers. The world is often unkind to burns survivors. But I know  them individually as bright, funny, lovely, interesting human beings, hurt through no fault of their own. They need a second chance at life and whatever money I raise, will help them to move forward. Donate in pounds, dollars, euros, rand or yen please. And add Gift Aid if you are a British taxpayer as that increases the donation by 25% at no cost to the donor. Give because it could have been you or your child. Please give because these kids are worth it.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
