AFGHANISTAN HAS SUFFERED A DEVASTATING EARTHQUAKE

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday morning, killing over 1,000 people and injuring more than 1500. The death toll is likely to rise over the coming days. Homes have been destroyed and families are believed to be trapped under the rubble, with hundreds of people injured. Other critical infrastructure such as roads and power supplies have also been badly damaged. In addition, up to 5000 homes have reportedly been destroyed and damaged in Gayan, one of the most affected areas.

The Human Appeal team is on the ground in Paktika province reportedly the worse affected and will be providing lifesaving aid in the form of hot meals to 200 families everyday for the next 7 days.
