Story
The Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Alzheimer's and Dementia has a profound effect on both the sufferer and their families. I have been personally touched by the damage Alzheimer's can do, in that my much loved and missed Father was affected by this illness until his passing away in December 2013.
My Father was someone who I would say had a heart of gold and time for everyone, he was much loved by friends and family alike and he is never far from any of our thoughts. He loved, life and worked hard to make his family knew he loved them. He never took life too seriously and tried to always see the positive in even the darkest days, I swear he would even a found something positive to say about the global pandemic we are suffering as I type this. If I can be half the man that my Father was, I think I will have made a good contribution to society.
So I plan to do this walk in memory firstly of my Father and to the many other families and individuals who Alzheimer's and Dementia has been an intrusion to.
In line with what the Alzheimer's Society say if my small contribution can play a part in making lives better and finding a cure, then every minute, every blister, every ache will have been worth it.
