Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In memory and support of Ray Butcher, colleague and friend.
Ray was one of the founding members of the ‘Alliance for Rabies Control’, and he was on the board of directors. His aim as a veterinary surgeon had always been to alleviate suffering and prevent illness in animals, but he also cared greatly about preventing illness and suffering in people. He had been an advisor with the World Society for the Protection of Animals, (WSPA), and one of his particular areas of expertise was the humane control of stray animals. He knew how animal and human health is inter-linked, and that conservation of the environment is vital for all. He believed that successful control of diseases like Rabies in humans and animals depends on the co-operation and sharing of knowledge between medics and vets. Education and vaccination of animals, both domesticated and wild, can limit the risk of infection in people, and protect endangered species such as the African Wild Dogs, without the unnecessary slaughter of stray domesticated dogs.
The aim of the ARC is to free people and animals from the threat of Rabies throughout the world, to save human lives, and improve animal welfare.
