Story
I am Re-sharing my story as it may help someone to get checked out or reach out for support. I have been on my BC journey for over a year now and it has given me many ups and downs. But as it’s Breast Cancer Awareness I urge everyone to check themselves regularly for any changes at all!
In Jan 2022 I noticed a change and some discharge coming from my left nipple. I contacted my GP who referred me to Beaumont Breast Clinic for a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. All of these tests were returned as negative but as there was still a bleed happening they decided to remove the duct they thought was causing the issue. However on the 16th of Aug I was called in by my consultant and informed that unfortunately when they tested the duct they had removed it wasn’t as clear as they originally thought and I was straight away scheduled in for a single mastectomy which was done on 14th Sept. Unfortunately the cancer had spread to my lymph nodes which resulted in a treatment plan of IV chemotherapy weekly for 3 mths, 12mths of 3 wkly injections and medication for 5yrs. Thankfully my cancer was on the smaller scale so we are hopeful that this is all the treatment I will need.
So I'm hosting a small family event this October and helping to raise funds for breast cancer patients and their families in Ireland.Funds raised from this event will go towards supporting lifechanging cancer research and vital services for breast cancer patients in communities across the country. Please help me to make a difference in the lives of breast cancer patients and their families, together we can ensure that no-one has to go through their breast cancer journey alone.
