Story

Spot Kicks for Sick Kids

Your Penalty Shoot-Outs can help buy a Portable Lung Function machine for sick Worthing children.

Worthing United Youth Football Club has joined forces with Sussex charity The Rockinghorse Appeal to fundraise for a new lung function machine to help sick children at Worthing Hospital.

Together we need to raise £5,000 to buy a new life-saving Vyntus Spiro lung function machine to be used at Worthing NHS Hospital for local children affected by lung conditions such as asthma and more topically COVID-19.

Dr Akshat Kapur explains why this machine so important to the care provided by his team; “We are expanding our high-quality children’s cystic fibrosis and chest centre to provide care to children in West Sussex. As a centre of excellence, we require high standard medical diagnostic equipment, like this machine, to provide accurate, reliable and reproducible results.

"As we branch out to be the lead of a respiratory network on the South Coast, it is essential that we maintain our current standard of care throughout and need a second machine to enable us to do this. Due to Covid-19 we are experience more cases than usual and need to have the equipment to support children at Worthing Hospital.

"We all fully understand the pressure that the health services are under at the moment but it’s precisely these kinds of situations that make the work of charities like Rockinghorse even more vital."

Worthing United Youth FC provides football for more than 300 young people. As a club, we will be taking penalties against family members to reach our £5,000 target.

How do I join in?

You challenge a family member to a penalty shout-out. If you have access to a goal that's great. If not, create one using your imagination and whatever you have to hand (jumpers for goalposts, Mum's best china, a garden gnome, etc).

The rules for your penalty shoot-out are as follows:

Parents v Kids ... Parents take 5 penalties with their weaker foot. Every missed penalty = £2 donation.

Kids v Parents ... Kids take 5 penalties. Every penalty scored = donation.

Feel free to make up your own rules to maximise your donation. Contact your friends and other family members to get sponsorship for this very worthy cause.

Anyone can join in too. You don't have to be a Worthing United footballer to take part and donate.

Remember - this is a Stay at Home Challenge!

Please visit our Facebook page to see the video of how to take part and ask as many family and friends as possible to sponsor you.

Remember to video your penalties. You can send your videos of your penalty shoot-outs to our facebook page. Just search for Worthing United Youth FC on Facebook.

Stay safe, have fun and lets make a real difference to our local community!
