Southampton RAG has challenged many societies to move 259km in the month of August and raise money for Stop Hate UK..... We've decided to accept that challenge but go further, moving 2590km in the month of August!
THE CHALLENGE: In 2019, 259 black lives were taken by American police (source: www.statista.com). The BLM movement started by the systematic racism that exists in our society is one that most of us are familiar with by now, but for a lot of people, the conversation about racial injustices has died down.
Therefore, for the month of August, we are going to keep the movement going by moving 2590km to represent the 259 lives that ended too soon. We are going to be completing this distance as a Wessex Sailing Club team by running, walking, cycling, swimming and sailing too!
We hope that through this campaign, we will keep the BLM movement and conversation going, so we can continue to educate ourselves and others and raise awareness of the systematic racism that is so deeply ingrained in our society.
