Story
I'll be undertaking a series of challenges for the Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2023, to support the Ranger Community in Africa who are protecting wildlife and conserving invaluable wilderness areas.
Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2023 is an international event, with thousands of others from across the African continent undertaking a gruelling half-marathon Challenge whilst carrying 22kg (10kg for women’s teams) in the intense African heat – a weight equivalent to an average fully packed flight check-in suitcase.
This Wildlife Ranger Challenge, organised by Tusk Trust, celebrates Rangers’ many roles, and is raising much-needed funds to support their arduous, dangerous and around the clock patrol effort.
There's no way Angus, Ross and I could handle the African heat, but we have signed up to do our first triathlon(a), which will built to be a 1 mile swim, 55 mile cycle and half marathon in June this year. Any funds that we can raise will go towards the Rangers in the UK team to support wildlife ranger communities as part of the Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2023.
We'll also be taking part in activities to raise awareness of the WRC 2023 and to improve our own local community, posting updates at the bottom of this/the team page.
Running your first 10k? Cooking some goodies for the office? Litter picking your favourite walk? We'd love to have you on our team!
Whatever you’re doing, You can join us! Show your support and run, walk, bake, dance, carwash, whatever you’d like to do, do it for wildlife with your own community of ranger supporters from wherever you are in the world! You can join by following the link to the 'Team Rangers in the UK' at the top of this page.
Role of Rangers
Rangers are Africa’s unsung heroes. They don’t just fight poaching – they are conservationists, teachers, community support workers, leaders and much more. The Rangers that we support in the Zambezi
Valley carry out their patrol across contiguous wildlife protected areas of 12,282 sq km, under threat from illegal poaching, deforestation, mining and encroachment
Where your Donation Goes:
Your contribution to “Rangers in the UK” will support Rangers who patrol in Zimbabwe’s wildlife rich Zambezi Valley’s protected areas. Every dollar raised through JustGiving will earn a 25% match.
Our Africa-based partner is The Tashinga Initiative Trust and its 6 x Wildlife Ranger Challenge 2023 ZimParks Widlife Ranger Challenge teams .
Tashinga Initiative will ensure that your donation will go towards Rangers’ patrol needs such as deployment, patrol kit, training, food security, communication devices. You will be helping them compete, succeed and ultimately turn the tide of the war on wildlife!
