Story

EDIT - Congratulations to Miff Smith from twitter on winning this fantastic prize with his £30 donation who was randomly assigned the team QPR. Thanks to everyone in the Wolves community and beyond who has donated to any of my last three fundraisers in the past 12 months, together we have raised over £1000 to help the people of Ukraine in their humanitarian crisis.

Today, Friday the 24th of February 2023, is the one year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The people of Ukraine are in a humanitarian crisis and I know our wonderful community of Wolves fans and shirt collectors can come together to help.

I'm Eddy also known as @WolvesFootballShirts on Instagram and @wolvesshirts on twitter, a lifelong Wolverhampton Wanderers fan and football shirt collector. Welcome to my Framed David Jones Squad Signed Match Shirt 40 name football card in aid of the British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal.

Football card prize

A framed David Jones match shirt, worn during the Championship Trophy presentation after our 1-0 win vs Doncaster in the last game of the season on the 3rd of May 2009 as we were confirmed as champions, although Jones wasn't a part of the match day squad.

This was fully signed by the squad and staff after the ceremony and gifted to a member of the Wolves coaching staff. Signatures include; David Jones, Matt Jarvis, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, David Edwards, Wayne Hennessey, Michael Kightly, George Elokobi, Karl Henry, Stephen Ward, Chris Iwelumo, Jody Craddock, Andy Keogh, Carl Ikeme, Richard Stearman, Danny Batth, Michael Mancienne, Christophe Berra, Neill Collins, Sam Vokes, Kyle Bennett, Matt Hill, George Friend, Shane Higgs, Steve Weaver, Terry Connor, Mick McCarthy and others.

David Jones signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers of the Championship on 27 June 2008 in a three-year deal for a reported fee of £1.2 million. He made his Wolves debut on the opening day of the 2008–09 season at Plymouth Argyle and scored his first goal in a 5–1 win over Nottingham Forest on 30 August. He became a regular fixture in the first team squad throughout the season until a suspected injury halted his run in early 2009. He returned to the side during the final stages as the club eventually won promotion to the Premier League as champions, scoring 4 goals in 34 league appearances.

This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of Wolves history, beautifully framed by Dave of Creative Framing at Chapel Ash. Big thanks to Dave for his reduced rate for this fundraiser, please check him out on twitter @davetheframe or instagram @creative_framing

I have already raffled two bundles of shirts last year which raised £680, my aim is to raise another £400 to help people of Ukraine.

What links do Wolverhampton Wanderers have with Ukraine?

Did you know the first Ukrainian to win the Premier League played for Wolves? Oleg Luzhny (Oleh Luzhnyi) signed for Wolves after four successful years with Arsenal, although was released at the end of our disastrous 2003/04 campaign managing 10 appearances. Since then he's spent around 15 years coaching at Dynamo Kyiv. Since the start of the Russian invasion he's paused his coaching career to bravely defend his homeland, as detailed here:

https://metro.co.uk/2022/02/27/former-arsenal-star-oleg-luzhny-pauses-coaching-career-to-fight-for-ukraine-16183601/

Current Wolves star Max Kilman is also half-Ukrainian, applying to FIFA last year to represent Ukraine internationally.

How will my donation help people in Ukraine?
