Story
The 28thAnnual Wisborough Green Balloon Festival was due to take place to provide a spectacular finale to the summer holidays on Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September and a significant fundraising opportunity for Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice.
Ten hot air balloons were scheduled to take to the skies from pretty Sussex village, Wisborough Green, over two days - a total of 40 flights in all.
Flights were sold out and spectators were encouraged to come along and watch the balloons take flight from the picturesque village green and help us to raise lots of money for the charity.
Hot air ballooning is, however, always at the mercy of weather conditions and this year we have regrettably had to cancel 3/4 of the flights due to forecasted high winds..
This is of course exceedingly disappointing for everyone, organisers, passengers, the public, but most significantly the charity. We are therefore hoping that people will find it in their hearts to donate some money to this worthy cause in recognition of the efforts that have been made to organise this event, all organised and staffed by volunteers, with all of the pilots giving their time free of charge.
The festival is the brainchild of Wisborough Green residents, Brian and Cecilia Smith, central figures in the hot air ballooning community for over 40 years. Since its inception in 1981 they have raised over £100,000 for charity.
This year’s festival is supported and sponsored by The Cricketers Arms, E P Clark, Fishers Farm, Lil Sussex, Penfolds Estate Agents, The Bat and Ball, Wisborough Green Networking Group, Airworks Worldwide and British Balloon Flights.
We thank you so very much in advance.
