Story
Wirral Group is Supporting the National Campaign to walk/run/cycle
a mighty 5000 miles over 5 weeks on behalf of the Motor Neurone Disease
Association’s Mission 5000 fundraising campaign, travelling a mile for every
person living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in the UK.
Mission 5000 starts on Sunday 13th September and finishes
five weeks later on Sunday 18th October, by which time we hope to have raised £1,500
to Support People living locally.
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that attacks the
nerves that control movement, so that muscles no longer work. It can leave a
person unable to move, eat, drink, speak, and eventually breathe. MND is life-shortening
and there is currently no treatment and no cure. MND kills a third of people
within a year of diagnosis and more than half within 2 years.
The MND Association, who provide invaluable support for
those affected by this cruel disease, as well as carrying out research to find
a cure, has been devastated by the pandemic. It faces losing up to a third of
its income following the postponement and cancellation of fundraising events
this year, at a time when families affected by MND need support more than ever.
The Wirral Group of Motor Neurone Disease Association is a
group of volunteers who raise funds throughout the year to support people
living with MND, their families and carers.
We are supporting this Campaign in honour of people living with MND who
are currently being supported by the group in various ways and in memory of
loved ones who have been lost to this devastating disease.
