Sadly there has been a change of plan due to COVID and GOV Lockdown Guidelines - so the original 300 Mile 3 Recital plan won't be happening.....
HOWEVER, I will now instead be Cycling over 500 Miles starting on Blue Monday 18th January before joining a group of friends and colleagues to perform Schubert's Song Cycle Winterreise on the 29th January at The WIgmore Hall at 1pm. (Live Stream Feed at https://wigmore-hall.org.uk/)
Schubert’s Song Cycle ‘Winterreise’, written nearly two hundred years ago in 1828, delves deep into humankind’s propensity to feel, our emotional turmoil, grief, loss, depression and suicide with some of the most hauntingly beautiful music written for piano and voice. It’s a stark reminder that whilst technology and the world around us has changed, our basic human emotions are haven’t.
My goal is to raise £5000 for Two Mental Health Charities which will allow two people counselling and therapy once a week for a year.
‘Over the last few years I’ve been very vocal about Mental Health, my own battles with depression and suicide, as well as trying to encourage people to lookout for one another. The idea to do this Song Cycle challenge has been on my mind for a number of years but due to work and scheduling it never quite fitted, until a performance at the Wigmore Hall and a conversation with John Gilhooly afterwards that made it all seem like it could happen. I’m truly grateful to John and The Wigmore Hall for supporting this challenge and encouraging me throughout the whole planning of it’
‘2020 has played havoc with all our lives and livelihoods and our Mental Health has and continues to be tested harder than ever. For me personally, had it not been for the tools I’ve acquired through Counselling with MIND, reaching out to close friends and deep inner self-reflection and self-nurture I would be in a very different Mental state to the one I find myself in now’
