Story

Hi everyone. My name is Wilson Raphel, I am a 41 year old college lecturer living in East Kilbride. I broke my leg in mid September when I slipped and tripped on a walking path near my home. I required surgery, placing a metal rod in my tibia. Thank you NHS who have been outstanding and are still supporting me with physiotherapy and mobility issues with my foot, especially during this Coronavirus pandemic, which is negatively impacting how we all live our lives.

I wanted to strengthen my leg whilst raising some money for a worthy charity and have decided to raise funds for STV's Children's Coronavirus appeal. Coronavirus affects us all but some of us are lucky enough to still have jobs at least, however, there are so many people that either lost work and/or suffering in so many other ways its difficult to quantify but this means these families' kids are suffering too. Please do join in on my challenge if you can, Please do follow my progress and Please Please DONATE! Thank you. Below is a statement from the charity itself.

Friday 20th March, we were able to provide £400,000 of STV Appeal's fundraisers money to Fareshare so that families unable to make ends meet, can put food on the table during these difficult times. Fareshare is a network of charitable food redistributers who receive good quality surplus food across the industry, which they then distribute to frontline charities and community groups. We would love to do more - but we need your help. As the Coronavirus crisis rapidly escalates, more children and their families will be pushed deeper into poverty.£25 could provide a week's gas or electricity for families to heat their home£50 could provide emergency food for a family£100 could provide essential household items like nappies, food & urgent assistance.Whether you can donate today, or could start a fundraising idea, please do what you can to help children and families affected by Coronavirus.Thank You.

As a result of my injuries, I have been unable to exercise in any meaningful way, and as I've been laid up and off work its been the longest period I've ever been without rigorous exercise and I've gotten a little rounder it has to be said.  Now my leg is stronger but the gyms are closed due to lockdown, I still can't run on my leg, and I don't want to risk slipping out on a bike in this weather. I have managed to source a bike trainer and speed sensor that simply attaches to an existing bike's rear wheel and is now positioned in my garage. This will give me the exercise I desperately need and allow me to challenge myself with the magnetic resistance settings.

Using the Wahoo and Strava apps, I will be able to track the distance cycled each evening, when I will be doing most of my cycling after working from home. I aim to complete the equivalent of Lands End to John O'Groats, the full length of the UK, according to the Conqueror Virtual Challenges, this is a whopping 1083 mile journey via bicycle. There will be no time limits set as all depends on how strong my leg is feeling so its done when its done but I will keep regular posts on daily distance achieved.

Thanks again.
