So... to set the scene, it was the first week in October and `word around the campfire', was that the applicants for the London marathon 2019 would receive a Congratulation or Commiseration magazine imminently.
The first to hear was Wils who received his `you have been successful' mag through the door at Wilson Towers. Wils' astonishment soon turned to anguish as the rest of us received our results, No, No, No, No and No!
Not ones to leave our friend to confront the challenge alone, Daz and myself managed to cajole Farleigh’s into giving us the last two charity places. Phew!!
We are very excited and proud to be raising money for this amazing local charity in what is the most iconic footrace in the world.
As many of you know, Farleigh Hospice is there to help people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, offering support at a time when it feels that nothing may be the same again.
Farleighs running costs increase each year as they care for an ever growing number of patients. In 2016/17, the total operating costs were in the region of £2.9 million. Of this, £1.1 million is expected from the NHS but they are entirely dependent upon the goodwill of the local community for the rest of the money, which means that they need to raise nearly £5,000 each and every day to continue to run their vital services.
