Story
We are walking for a cure with Alzheimer's Research UK this July in memory of my Mum & Dad who both struggled with dementia. They passed away at the end of 2022, only 33 days apart.
Isabel was diagnosed with the illness 8 years earlier. John's developed very rapidly in 2022.
John & Isabel were wonderful parents to 5 children and very family orientated and they loved all of their grandchildren.
In the last year of Mum & Dad's lives, they really struggled and eventually we did not recognise what we once knew of them.
I previously worked as a care assistant for over 5 years caring for people with dementia and Alzheimer's but with all that experience, nothing prepares you for it when it's your own parents.
Dementia is such a cruel illness and in its nature, is like death by instalments and so by raising money, my hope is that not only to help research and find a cure but also that it can help support families living with dementia.
