Story

September is child cancer awareness month. I will be taking up the CHECT 50km Anyway Challenge, choosing to walk 50km over the month. As many of you will know, my darling grandson, Cian, is one of the 50 children who were diagnosed with retinoblastoma last year. He had just turned one when his mum noticed an odd reflection in his eye. Lerwick Specsavers were brilliant, saw him as an urgent appointment and set everything in motion, leading to his ongoing treatment at the specialist retinoblastoma centre in Birmingham. The work of CHECT is invaluable in raising awareness of childhood eye cancers. Please donate to support the work of this amazing charity. X

Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) is the only UK charity that supports those diagnosed with retinoblastoma (Rb), and we need your help! Whether you choose to walk, cycle, run or skate – every penny you raise will help anyone affected by Rb in the UK. So, lace up your trainers and take on the challenge of completing 50km, representing approximately 50 children a year who are diagnosed with this rare form of children’s eye cancer. The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) is the UK's only charity dedicated to helping people affected by retinoblastoma (Rb), a rare form of eye cancer that affects babies and young children. We: Provide support and information to families and individuals. Fund research into the prevention and treatment of retinoblastoma. Raise awareness among health professionals and the public. Influence policy to improve services for patients.CHECT offers lifelong support to every family in the UK affected by
