In July of last year, my so precious 6 year old grandson was tragically killed and Lawson was cared for after his death by Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice. Without their facilities, professionalism and kindness, I really don't know how my family would have got through that time. We continue on our journey to try and repair and rebuild our lives but this is a journey without a destination. Helping others who are experiencing their own loss or impending loss of a young loved one truly gives us a sense of comfort.
Jigsaw's costs for providing their care for the dying and the deceased totals £4 million each year and only 25% is funded by the NHS with £3 million coming from charitable donations. As Lawson lay at Jigsaw for two weeks following his death, I visited him on numerous occasions and witnessed the unbelievable good done by Jigsaw and their extraordinary staff.
Myself, and friends - Gordon Mackenzie, Martin Wood and Peter Ballingall, are obviously funding our trip's expenses personally and all monies we raise will go to Jigsaw. We set off late May from Roscoff in NW France and cycle "La Velodyssee" to Hendaye in SW France and then we have decided to go further by cycling into N Spain to San Sebastian, then to Bilbao and finishing in Santander before returning home in late June - "Lawson's Velodyssee+". (Circa 1800 kms in total.)
(The total currently showing has been enhanced by £250 + gift aid by an anonymous donator who elected not to use the Just Giving channel and sent the contribution direct to Jigsaw who have added this amount to our grand total. Thank you to....... - you know who you are, and for your so kind and emotional message. A further donation has also been received direct by Jigsaw from Jim & Glennys Eilbeck - £50 + gift aid, this too has been added to the grand total - Thanks both!)
A big and special thanks to AST Signs Ltd., and Arragons Cycle Centre for their invaluable contributions both monetary and materially. Watch out friends, for the reveal of The Old Duffers' in their lycra early May!
We hoped to raise £6,000 representing £1,000 for each of the wonderful six years Lawson was with us - we miss him………! However as you can see we have exceeded this target comfortably and it just gets better each day........
Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart.
Willy.
