When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

At the young age of 24, my best friend's sister, Becky, had a stroke. It was a massive scare for her and her family at the time. Luckily, she made a swift recovery though with no lingering after effects.

Strokes are the leading cause of adult disability within the UK, and whilst it is more commonly associated with those above the age of 55, this unfortunate event has shown that it can happen at stage in life.

Following her recovery, Becky has since started working at the Stroke Association, a charity that funds life changing research for the ongoing rehabilitation of stroke survivors. So naturally, when Dom and Becky told me they were going to do the Berlin Inline Skating Marathon to raise money for the charity, what kind of person would I be to say no?

So on Saturday 24th September 2022, I will be donning my skates and attempting the Berlin Inline Skating Marathon.

Will it be quick? No.

Will it be graceful? No.

Will it help raise money for a great cause and also see me in a tremendous amount of pain? Hell yeah.
