Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We did it!!! An amazing experience. Together with a wonderful group of 27 friends I climbed that mountain! It has left me tired but exhilarated and with a host of wonderful memories.
My first intro to major fund-raising for MND Scotland was in association with my lovely daughter Beccy, who in 2013 completed "Becs Big Bike Ride" (www.becsbigbikeride.com). She rode over 2500 miles around UK in just 28 days. What an achievement, and it inspired me to take on a challenge of my own - Mt Kilimanjaro.
In July , I reached the grand age of 71, although I don't feel it! I'm not the oldest to have reached the peak of Africa's highest mountain, but I am now one of not-very-many-septuagenarians who've done it. I was delighted to be joined on this epic trip by four of may late wife, Ellie's nieces - sisters Liz, Steph, Kath and Jen, and by my second-cousin-once-removed (but not very far!) Ellen Roome. And we all did it to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease Scotland.
My beautiful wife Ellie was diagnosed with MND in 2010 and passed away just 18 months later, in May 2012. MND Scotland helped me care for her through that terrible illness, which to date has no known cause or cure. Shortly after her death I became a trustee of the charity, which continues to provide invaluable care and support to MND sufferers and their families, and to promote research into the causes and treatment. That work costs a lot, and the organisation desperately needs your help to maintain its work.
Please give whatever you can to support this incredibly worthwhile cause, so close to all our hearts.
