Story
April 2017 I take on my biggest adventure yet, the Marathon des Sables a 251km ultra marathon across the Sahara Desert. All food, bedding, first aid and equipment must be carried by the competitors through temperatures of searing heat.
Why am I doing this?
This is not only to test myself to the absolute limit and to give me the biggest goal I have ever tried to achieve, but it is to raise money for an incredible charity Leuka, a true leader in Leukaemia research and one that is very close to my heart: www.leuka.org.uk. I also aim to finish in the top 250 places.
Training has started, which means I am mostly donning trainers and a rather attractive rucksack and can be seen plodding about the streets and jungle of Singapore avidly trying to get the all important miles into my legs. I have begun to weigh my food and check the total calorie intake and instead of social occasions being penned into my diary, I am busily calculating how many miles have been and need to be run each week.
One thing that has kept me going so far and I know will continue to do so, is knowing that I am raising money for a charity that does so much good work in fighting Leukemia in the UK, including the millions of pounds it invests each year to cancer reasearch. Last year there were over 350,000 new cases of cancer in the UK and their annual dinner since 1999 has contributed over £5 million pounds to help win the battle www.whoscookingdinner.com.
Every pound will help me along the way, not only in the desert but during the endless hours of training needed between now and race week. So please dig deep and give your money to a cause that deserves it.
Thank You
Will
