Prostate Cancer kills 12,000 men every year with over 32,000 new cases diagnosed. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Welsh men and over 550 welsh men will die from this disease every year. Your risk of getting the disease as a Welshman is 1 in 8. Prostate cancer is 17% more common in Welshmen compared to Englishmen. The reason for this is not known.
For the last decade, Prostate Cymru has sought to:
1. Raise awareness of the risks and signs of prostate cancer amongst the welsh population.
2. Promote understanding of prostate disease, identify red flag symptoms and offer advice to the general public on how to seek early diagnosis and treatment for prostate disorders.
3. Establish ‘state of the art treatments’ for prostate cancer in Wales, through a variety of fundraising events, working closely with Surgeons and Local Health Boards and petitioning the Welsh Government.
4. Facilitate the training of surgical and nursing staff in Welsh
Hospitals to perform new techniques in the treatment of prostate cancer.
