Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2016 I was rushed to Wythenshawe hospital with extremely low blood pressure and flu like symptoms. The low blood pressure was the start of heart failure caused by seasonal flu.
At this point I was moved to Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit (CCCU), given a 50 / 50 chance of survival and put on a lifesaving ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine. The ECMO acted as an external heart / lung extracting blood, adding oxygen, removing carbon dioxide and returning it into my body.
There are only 5 hospitals within the U.K. which provide ECMO
support, Wythenshawe Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit being one of them.
With the fantastic care and support of the surgeons and staff at the Wythenshawe Critical Unit, 6 weeks of intensive treatment and open heart surgery I am well down the recovery road.
On June 12th 2016 I along with the Birches School Walkers intend to walk around the Wirral peninsula in order to raise much needed funds for Wythenshawe Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit.
I ask of you please to make a just giving donation no matter how small to the Critical Care Unit and help fund their miracle work and life-saving machinery.
