Story
Hi All,
In January 2018 as part of my gap year I am heading to Tanzania to volunteer at Mvumi Secondary School.
The school is in the Dodoma region of Tanzania. Life in the region is challenging with debilitating diseases abounding, often causing blindness. Most families live off subsistence farming which leads to high levels of undernourishment and leaves little or no money left to put towards education. This is where Mvumi School fits into the picture.
Mvumi School offers a high standard of education to children in Tanzania and is supported by the UK based charity Mvumi School Trust. One third of the school's pupils are on scholarships or bursaries which enables children who otherwise may have grown up illiterate to fulfil their potential with special attention being paid to helping the blind.
For the school to do all of its amazing work it needs good facilities and resources. It relies on the generosity of donors to provide such a fantastic service.
My challenge. I am cycling a minimum of 1284 miles between the 11th September and Christmas: that works out at 2 miles per pupil at Mvumi School. I am currently working at a cider factory doing a challenging shift pattern and because of this many of miles will be my commute however when work allows I will be embracing the challenge of the Welsh hills.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please follow the progress of my ride here: https://www.strava.com/athletes/williamhayward
