Story
I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022 (on my 52nd birthday) during a routine medical assessment. I had no symptoms. Thankfully it was caught really early and following radiotherapy recent tests and scans have shown me to be cancer free.
Over the past couple of years several close friends have also been diagnosed with prostate cancer, all requiring treatment. Thankfully all have responded well to their treatment.
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. There is no question that early diagnosis dramatically increases the chances of successful treatment.
In the UK prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. More than 52,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year and more than 12,000 men die every year.
I am running the marathon both to raise money to support Prostate Cancer UK (the leading prostate cancer charity in the UK funding research to stop prostate cancer killing men), and also to raise awareness of the need for men over 50 to get themselves tested regularly.
So if you are a man get yourself tested and if you are a woman get your man to get tested!
I am running with my amazing daughter Tilly who is also running for Prostate Cancer UK.
If you are feeling generous any contribution to the cause would be much appreciated.
