Story
Kidney Care UK are a fantastic charity offering all kinds of support to people affected by diseases of the kidney.
In 2010, my sister Alice discovered that she only had one kidney. Whilst for most people this is not a problem, this kidney was enlarged and working overtime. As a result, Alice was told that it could probably only go on working away like this for a few more years. Alice continued to live a normal and active life until late 2016 when her kidney failed and she was told the only course of action was to have a kidney transplant.
After months of tests, Dad was told he was a close enough match to be able to offer one of his kidneys to Alice, which he did without hesitation. In November 2017, the transplant went ahead at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.
Fortunately for Alice the transplant was a success and her new kidney (Sidney), who turned 60 a few days after the operation, gave her a new lease of life. She is now back to her old self, living life to the full.
The transplant wouldn’t have been possible without the wonderful care of Mr Ridgeway and his amazing team at the Royal Liverpool Hospital and the continued support Kidney Care UK offer Alice, and many others in similar circumstances.
Please support Kidney Care UK as best you can as I drag myself around London on the 26th April.
