Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At 9am on the 22nd of April 2023 I will begin running up and down Scafel Pike (England's Tallest Mountain). The route is very rocky and very steep giving an elevation gain of around 3000 feet over a distance of 2 1/2 miles with another 2 1/2 miles back down the 3000 feet repeating this ten times gives me a 50 miles Ultra Marathon with about 30000 feet of ascent and the same descent, to put this in perspective one of the world's toughest ultra events is the Hardrock 100 which is 100.5 miles with 33000 feet of ascent, granted the overall altitude makes a huge difference but that aside the cut off for Hardrock is 40 hours and the record is 21 hours set by undisputed King of Mountain ultra running Kilian Jornet. I am not a world class ultra runner but I am aiming to complete my event inside 24 hours which is a big ask for any athlete.
Back in November 2019 I started a solo supported Ultra Marathon of 113 miles from Ullapool in the North West Highlands of Scotland to the Isle of Skye but having suffered frost bite while running through Torridon mountain range at night in temperatures around minus 10 I had to drop out at mile 90 in Lochcarron.
This time I am much more prepared both in terms of equipment and training, last December I was running up and down Ben Wyvis (3000 feet) near Inverness 4 times a week after work when snow allowed, I used yaktrax running crampons to keep my feet from sliding on the icy rocks. During the year this year I have managed a better approach to training as I have started my own business and can fit in runs more easily.
I am asking for donations of long sleeve wicking base layers, a pair of ultra light waterproof trousers and some water bottles which can be carried as my personal funds are low, this equipment is for me not for the charity please contact me direct or through social media about this.
In 2005 I volunteered for Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team while I worked from home, I had no idea what little government help the Mountain Rescue Teams get, I will be praying not to need the services through my event and I doff my cap fully to those tough men and women who show absolute passion and empathy to go out in all conditions at all times of day of night to help those who require it for NO PAY. It takes a very special person to dedicate their relative free time to this very just cause.
Please donate to my charity event, I have striven through some extremely hard training, suffered injuries and spent hundreds in personal cash on equipment, I would like as much to raise funds but also to raise awareness
