Story
In November 2021, my mother (who has returned to work as an NHS nurse) was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive breast cancer. Since then, she has undergone 2 major operations, 24 weeks of chemotherapy, 3 weeks of radiotherapy and is now taking oral targeted therapy for 2 years.
Throughout the process, my mum has been a solid rock maintaining her positive, helpful and kind demeanor, supported and helped hugely by The McMillan Cancer Centre at University College London Hospital. On numerous occasions, mum has stressed the fantastic support, skill, professionalism and dedication shown by the consultants, nurses and staff in the many different wards and departments where she has been treated.
I therefore will be completing the Arctic Polar Bear Challenge on October 28th in support of the Cancer Fund. This challenge involves a marathon, followed by a half marathon, in the Arctic Circle (Kangerlussuag, Greenland) - often referred to as "the coolest marathon on Earth''.
Alongside the marathon, I have also completed the 3 peak challenge, self driven with my friend Louis in under 21 hours. In addition, I have organised a charity headshave at my previous school, Richmond Upon Thames School.
All donations will go towards supporting University College Hospital Cancer Fund in delivering top-quality patient care, excellent education and world-class research. Any donations, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated.
