Story
Three weeks into his life, Woody (Amanda & my 3rd baby) was given the diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF is a genetic lung condition - one faulty gene leading to a perfect environment for harmful bacteria to manifest & attack the well-being of the sufferer, from the inside. Though there is currently no cure for CF, the research & development is making fantastic ground - such that modulators are enabling almost second lives for 90% of the community. Unfortunately, Woody has a gene-type that lies in the 10% for which these modulators currently can't accomodate. But the more money raised, the closer our dream of a life-changing drug for Woody becomes.
Woody's daily routine involves between 1-2 hours of physio & medication and anywhere between 20 - 50 tablets. That's every day, without relent. But every day, Woody keeps smiling & thriving, never complaining and working hard to maintain his health like a true Warrior. He's an inspiration to our family and we intend to be exactly that to him. And what better way than motivating those with CF to prioritise sport & exercise.
So in June, myself & three amazing friends (Fieldy, Shaun & Bruce) are competing in The Warrior Games, representing Woody and all of those who work tirelessly in pursuit of a 'normal' life. The event is a 24-hour tag-team relay race of endurance circuits. That's 24 hours of non-stop circuits!! The event has been created by Josh Llewellyn-Jones, a CF sufferer but a true hero for all of those with CF & their families. We are not warriors, but will do all we can to complete the Games with the same drive, spirit & joy that Woody brings every day. Our 'win' is to raise a significant sum for the CF Warriors & CF Trust to continue their life-changing work.
