RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

I'm not getting any younger and I've been thinking what I can do to raise some money for a good cause.  I've been a supporter of the RNLI for most of my life so I thought I'd do something that is associated with the charity and a sport that I love.

So being an avid kayaker, I thought I'd challenge myself to cross the English channel with the assistance of my buddies Harvey (8 years old) and Bailey (14 years old).  We already own all the required equipment for such a challenge so all monies raised will go directly to the RNLI.

As there is a fair bit of organising for such a trip, I'm planning to do it during the summer of 2014.  I will be using our double kayaks but I'll be accompanied by a safety crew in a boat (just being on the side of caution).

I know we're all experiencing a tight wallet during this current economic climate but I hope you can dig deep and find some spare pennies.

I will of course keep you posted on the progress and confirmed a date as things get sorted.
