Update 12 October 2008
I completed the Royal Parks Half marathon in 1hr55, comfortably beating my goal of sub-2 hours!
Previous introduction
I haven't really run since school, but I've recently taken it up again, and now I'm really committed to running the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2008 for UNICEF. At the time of writing, I'm currently managing 2 minutes running, 1 minute walking, for 20 minutes. So quite some work to do before I can comfortably run a Half Marathon! However, I have 4 months to go, so plenty of time to train up.
Edit: I've been training hard since I first wrote this page. I'm currently running about 25km a week, including a 15km long run at weekends. So I'm definitely on track to finish!
With your help, I should be able to reach my personal target. UNICEF do fantastic work for children across the world - to give some idea of what your donation can achieve:
£1.84 pays for a pregnant woman to have a blood spot test.
This figure is the cost of the screening test. In high prevalence countries the cost of the test is estimated at being $3 with 20% added for labour, transport insurance etc.£11 provides HIV test kits for 5 mums-to-be.
If the expectant mother has HIV she can then receive medicine for herself and her unborn baby
£50 provides a years supply of HIV medicine for a mother so that her baby doesn’t grow up an orphan.
And for me, there is the satisfaction of doing something physically challenging, as well as the challenge of fundraising!
Any donation no matter how small will be greatly appreciated, please help!
Thanks,
Will
