Story
On 14th June 2021, (3 weeks before Freddie was due) I ruptured my Achilles tendon. Cue 2 weeks in plaster, a complete reconstruction surgery and, 2 more weeks in plaster and 4 weeks in a protective boot and physio until 2022. As a relatively active person and a new-dad to be, this wasn't supposed to happen.
Thankfully, I'm now out of my plaster cast and starting to get to grips with the realisation that it will be November before I can run and March before I can sprint. That said, always up for a challenge and something to work towards, I'll be attempting to walk 1.8 miles unaided in what will be by far the most exercise I'll have done since the injury happened. I've got some help - Baby Freddie will be joining me for the walk and I'll probably be joined by a few family members too!
I'm doing this to raise money for the brilliant Church Army who do loads of incredible work including:
- Support Project in Yorkshire helping women exit the sex-industry
- Marylebone Project: The biggest women's-only homeless hostel in the UK with 112 beds and a 24/7 Drop-In Centre
- Amber Project: a support project for 16-25s in Cardiff experiencing self-harm
- 30+ local hubs in deprived areas across the UK and Ireland
- Ty Bronna: Youth Homeless Hostel in Cardiff
- Resources to help people share faith normally and naturally
- Plus loads more
*Don't worry, this is completely safe and all plans/exercise here has been signed off by my GP and Physio.
