Story

I am running the 2020 London Marathon to raise money and awareness for Sarcoma UK, a charity that helped my sister Sophie through her cancer treatment.

I had never heard of the word ‘Sarcoma’ until 2017 when Sophie was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer called Epithelioid Sarcoma.
In early 2016, she found a painful lump in her hand, which after a year of being misdiagnosed as a cyst, was then removed and confirmed to be cancerous. She went on to have a further 3 operations, which included a skin graft and having her hand attached to her leg for 3 weeks. This was followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy then regular scans and check-ups ever since.

From then on, we have all been passionate about raising awareness of Sarcoma, because although it is rare, there are still 15 people being diagnosed with this every day in the UK. This is motivating me to take on the challenge of running the London Marathon, as well as having been to support the Sarcoma UK team this year and being inspired by what I saw.

Sarcoma UK provide information and support to anyone affected by the disease and are always campaigning for better treatments and to improve standards of care. They aim to find answers by funding Sarcoma research as well as raising awareness of the disease. In order to give something back, I am looking to raise at least £3,000 that can be used to help change lives in the future.

I will be posting my progress and updates on this JustGiving page as well an Instagram account (@willruns4sarcoma).

We have seen first-hand the devastating effects of this disease and would all be incredibly grateful of any donations received.

Thank you!
