Story
On June 11th 2020 I will spend 24 hours cycling around Centennial Park, Sydney to raise awareness for mental health. It's a 3.8km loop. Let's see how many kms I can clock.
This will undoubtedly be one of my toughest mental tests to date. However, the hours on the bike will only represent a fraction of the time many around us suffer, often in silence.
The Black Dog Institute is a charity that funds research into mental health and develops new strategies to assist those who need it most. Through various research initiatives, the institute aims to reduce the incidence of mental illness and the stigma around it. They actively reduce suicide rates and empower people to live a mentally healthy life.
I truly believe in the benefits physical activity can have on fighting mental health issues. However the invisible scars of mental health can run much deeper and often professional assistance is required. This is why I want to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute.
I would be very grateful for any donations you can make, recognising that it is a very testing time right now. If nothing else, I hope that this inspires people to take on a challenge themselves, whatever that may be. It is amazing what the old endorphins can do for your state of mind!
Thank you for taking the time to read as far as here...if you wish to follow me on the day (and night), I will be posting updates via Insta on @lung_club .
