The Wild Hogs

Following the success of last years Wild Hogs appeal for the Myeloma charity we thought we'd step up our game this year and do a tougher ride for Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity. Looking to raise £5000.00.

The Wild Hogs are a group of cycling friends with a common liking for the finer things in life.

"Best Ever Elderly Riders" or BEER for short. The group was assembled several years ago by (Boss Hog) Gav Shaw of Ilkeston.

Most Sunday mornings the group will meet at the Dew Drop Inn public House in Ilkeston and typically ride between forty and fifty miles around the local country side, with of course a couple of real ale stops along the way.

On August the 2nd - 4th the Hogs…. Gavin Shaw, Andrew Mee, Andrew Inwood, Paul Dean, Julian Skelton, David Dunbar, Mark Leary, David White, Adam Hull, Gary Reece, Kevin Stevenson and Steve Fisher will set off from Whitehaven and cycle the Coast to Coast route to Sunderland.Covering over 150 miles in three days.

The majority of riders will be completing the challenge on mountain bikes and taking advantage of as many of the off road sections as possible, total ascent will be in the region of 9500ft.

There are 6 members of the Support team:

Adrian Stevenson
Sheila Skelton
Louise Shaw
Teresa Leary
Lynne Tomlinson and
Ele McGhee

3 of the team will be driving the cyclists and all the equipment to the start and supporting them on the route. Obviously, the lads will want photographic proof of their exploits and they will need a balanced nutritious diet. Our work will be cut out!

The aim of the ride is to have as much fun as possible whilst raising money for "The Derby and Burton Hospitals Dart Appeal". All the money raised is going towards the purchase of some very specific Radiotherapy equipment that targets cancer cells with pin point precision.
