Story
We've created this page because we want to make a difference. We're inspired by the work of Wisconsin Food Banks and wanted to support them by raising money as part of our participation to support childhood hunger programs during Child Support Awareness Month! Please help us help them by giving whatever you can. The more people that know about Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, Feeding Wisconsin and the other food banks in Wisconsin, the greater their impact. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot! Funds raised will be distributed to all 5 Feeding America Food banks throughout Wisconsin!
The child support program has been providing services to families in Wisconsin for 45 years. Working together, state and county child support professionals have helped ensure economic security for children and families, established paternity, ensured the provision of health insurance and offered services to parents to assist in overcoming barriers to employment. The child support program has played a significant role in helping to reduce childhood poverty and promote the involvement of both parents in the lives of their children. To celebrate child support awareness month, the Wisconsin Child Support Enforcement Association (WCSEA) and the Department of Children and Families Bureau of Child Support (BCS) are teaming up to give back to the community.
We support the communities that we serve and recognize the importance of addressing food insecurity to help strengthen those communities. Feeding Wisconsin is the state association of the six regional Feeding America food banks that provide food to over 1,000 local food programs in all 72 counties of the state. Together, these food banks provide 65 million meals annually to over 360,000 people in every corner of our state.
The current crisis is likely to reverse decreases in food insecurity that have occurred over the past decade. A recent report compiled by Feeding America National (https://www.feedingamericaaction.org/the-impact-of-coronavirus-on-food-insecurity/) projects an increase in childhood hunger in Wisconsin from 14.1% in 2018 to a projected 22.9% in 2020, meaning almost 1 in 4 children may experience food insecurity), with the level of greatest need likely peaking in Fall of 2020. Most of our food banks are anticipating needing to double the food they will distribute in the coming year and double their budget to accommodate these needs in the coming year.
The WCSEA and BCS are proud to work together to ensure that everyone has access to the food they need to work, learn, play and live healthy lives. Your contributions will be distributed to our regional food banks to support emergency food distribution during COVID-19 response. The funds are being used primarily to purchase nutritious shelf-stable and fresh food to pack family sized boxes to distribute to pantries and directly to those in need at mobile pantries. These efforts are helping families to not have to worry where their next meal will come from during these uncertain times.
Together, we are leading the way Forward together toward a healthy and hunger-free Wisconsin. For more information, please visit our statewide association website at www.FeedingWI.org
