Story
Hi everyone
My name is Tina and I am a recent Warwick PPE Graduate. As the final stop of my university journey, I will be teaching English in Limpopo, South Africa for 6 weeks. As such, I am fundraising £1000 for Warwick in Africa, and would appreciate your support.
Prior to university, I have benefitted from the advantages of great education and access to resources. The international exposure from doing the IB allowed me to study abroad (i.e. PPE at Warwick University), and eventually gain skills in securing a full-time job in the UK. Yet, without the luck of the draw, and being on the beneficiary side of systemic inequalities, none of this is possible.
In rural South Africa, it is not uncommon for a classroom of 50 students share one mathematics textbook. Children are routinely taken out of school to undertake labour work to support their family, leaving them without the educational opportunities that enable upward mobility.
While I can’t promise volunteer as the ultimate solution to the above problems, I’m certain that strengthening these personal links and partnerships is the step forward. Whether it’s building a small library, purchasing bins, or simply sharing our university experiences - all this changes lives. And it happens by being there.
As such, I kindly ask for your charitable support. A gift of any amount can help. From buying a book to fixing a few broken chairs. It’s the small actions that make a difference.
Your donation will help fund the Warwick in Africa volunteering program as a whole, as well teacher training provided by professors from Warwick University. Our program has benefitted 605,000 students already over the past 16 years - do help us continue to transform lives!
