Story
On 13th of November, I will be heading into the squared circle to take part in my first White Collar boxing bout, raising funds for Dementia Jersey in memory of my Grandmother. I started my journey in August, taking part in an intense 14 week training camp to get in shape and also sharpen those boxing skills! The event and training is being held with Transform Together Fitness.
I’ve chosen this charity for a number of reasons, but mainly due to my personal interaction with the disease. In October 2019, I visited my Grandmother in Madeira, I knew before meeting her that she had developed some form of dementia and I was afraid that she was never going to recognise me. Luckily, after speaking to her for a few minutes, I found out that her memory of me was still there. I was so relieved, but it made me think of others that may have family with some form of dementia.
Dementia Jersey provide expert advice, therapeutic activities including brain training and re-orientation for those recently diagnosed, support for families and carers plus community education. They also raise awareness and stand up for those with dementia to help them feel understood, welcomed and supported.
Any donation, big or small will be a massive help to ensure Dementia Jersey continues to provide advice, support and information to the community.
