Story
Thanks firstly to all my supporters and donations for the previous challenges- you have been amazing and it's been really motivating to have you all onboard! For any new supporters, here is a bit about me and this new challenge in particular...
My name is Adam Stanton-Wharmby. I'm 38 and I have cerebral palsy, which means in my case that I am unable to walk and have no use of my left arm.
Since 2017 I've been raising money for a number of charities by completing a series of Wheelchair Marathon Challenges (WheelPower Challenges) where I have driven my wheelchair from city to city to raise awareness of the challenges all wheelchair users face.
In March 2023, I will be ready for my next and biggest challenge, encompassing all the previous challenges I have done to date : Lands End to John O'Groats to raise money for Whizz-Kidz.
Whizz-Kidz Charity work hard to transform the lives of wheelchair users across
the UK, supporting them to become confident and independent young adults.I thoroughly enjoy volunteering, and get so much out of it. I volunteer for Whizz-Kidz as a wheelchair skills trainer, supporting the ambassador clubs and Whizz-Kidz camps.
For this challenge I have had my chair upgraded by some very special engineers. During my last challenge from Cheltenham to Silverstone, a Formula One charity, Grid4Good got in touch with the Mercedes Formula One Team who then offered to develop a modified wheelchair that would help me to complete my next route.
You can read an article about it here.
This is the first wheelchair to be improved upon by a Formula One Team!
Through doing the past challenges and all the support and donations
I am now the excited proud owner of a purpose made to measure wheelchair raised funds by these charity events to purchase this.
I am aiming for my total trip to be completed in 22 days, breaking the current world record. Please help me to raise money for this great charity
