Story
I am a trustee of the Jumbulance Trust and a Nurse Group leader for Hampshire, West Berkshire and North Yorkshire running affiliated Jumbulance Groups. I have volunteered with the Trust as a nurse for nearly 30
years, taking sick and disabled people on holidays and pilgrimages all over Europe and the UK in our unique Jumbulances and providing vital respite care for families.
So, what is this Jumbulance that needs replacing at a cost of over £375,000... a giant ambulance yes but these amazing part coach, part ambulances are purpose built, (they literally stop the production line to make them as a one off) with a level floor, access by platform lift, up to 5 beds and/or 6 wheelchairs on tracking with up to 18 reclining chairs with leg
rests. They have a fully accessible toilet and a kitchen and are medically equipped, which the volunteer nurses and doctors use. They are registered as ambulances in Europe and the UK. The Jumbulance Trust owns and operates the Jumbulances and we rely entirely on local affiliated groups of volunteer helpers to provide the one to one care and social companionship on our week long trips.
This is the 3rd Jumbulance we have been involved in fund raising for and my husband Iain and I want to do it differently this time... last time it was the Coast to Coast Walk over 12 days but everyone was able
bodied... this time we want to offer an opportunity to disabled people to do the walking challenge using wheelchairs and we will support them providing care and wheelchair pushers in the stunning scenery of the Lake District. Some people will use their arms to propel their own wheelchair and some will walk when they can.
We have already done a reccie and walked all the routes and are confident that we can do it. I know the mutual support will help get us through however tough it is for everyone. Each person is trying to raise £2,000 to reach our target of £20,0000 so please support us if you can by donating today.
