Story

JOGLE? No, not wobbly jogging!  Over the Easter weekend we (my father and I, John and Stephen Wharton) will be driving from John O'Groats to Lands End in a 1938 Austin Seven Opal.

From Saturday 7th to Wednesday 11th April 2012 we will be sharing the driving, and the sleeping, at a maximum speed on 45mph using only A- and B-roads, i.e. no cheating on motorways!

The Austin was John's first car which he purchased as a none runner for £15 in 1965. It was used regularly for the following 7 years as his only means of transport and then as a second car for my mother when they married.

Having owned the car for 46 years he knows it intimately having rebuilt it many times. The final rebuild was in 1995/2000 when it was restored to it's original colour and since then has toured much of the British Isles including the Isle of Man and Ireland.

John has wanted to complete the JOGLE for many years. (It has been run by the club numerous times over the past 30 years.) In 2012 it is the 90th anniversary of the very first Austin Seven so it is a very good opportunity  to attempt the challenge.

As an added incentive to keep us awake we are raising money for The Stroke Association and Alzheimer's Research UK - two charities that are close to out hearts and diseases that have affected our family members.  Click on the links below to donate to either or both of the charities, and also to see some pictures of Erbie!  Every donation, no matter how big or small, is absolutely appreciated, and will definitely make a difference.

Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. They'll make sure Gift Aid (an additional 28%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, too. That means more money goes to the charity, faster, with JustGiving.
