Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Merchy’s Stryders are a collective of friends, that are running in support of Guts UK. A bit about why, can be found below: Ian’s mum, Pat, died recently as a result of acute pancreatitis, passing on the 12th of September 2019. A sudden and shocking loss that was felt across their close knit family. After waking up sick and with severe stomach pains on the 10th of September, and after a swift admission to hospital, Pat sadly passed away. The speed in which the disease acted came out of the blue (there were no longer term warning signs) has added to the incredible sadness. Pat was a kind and considerate lady with a strength of character that saw her get through breast cancer in the late 90’s. ‘Nanny Pat’ to 4 grandchildren, means the loss has been felt even further. Pat was loved by many, always there for a chat and was happiest with her grand kids, away on holiday or in the garden. A devoted wife, loving daughter, mum and nanny, as well as a dear friend, who will be deeply missed. Following on from this loss, between Ian and friends, we’ve decided to run a half marathon (a new skill to some of us) in order to raise awareness around Pancreatitis and broader gut issues. Amongst the group, between ourselves, wives / partners and siblings we have encountered how life changing diseases of the gut can be. With the likes of Crohns disease, IBS and ulcerative colitis touching some of our lives, in some way. We are determined to do our bit to raise money and awareness around how these kind of diseases can affect people and their families. We’re running in Memory of Pat, and a charity that is at the forefront of supporting some of the issues the Merchill family have faced. We hope you can support our efforts, with as much or as little as you can! Thanks, Merchy’s Stryders
