Story
While many are aware of the various issues surrounding Covid-19 such as increased hunger and unemployment, few discuss how women and children are endangered everyday in abusive homes. Due to the virus, they have no escape. Genesis Women’s Shelter is dedicated to providing safety, shelter and support for women who have experienced domestic violence, and to raising awareness regarding its cause, prevalence and impact.
Funds will go toward their emergency shelter, transitional housing apartments, and nonresidential counseling office. Genesis Women’s Shelter was founded with a goal to not just help women, but to completely eradicate domestic violence. Due to Covid-19, funds will also help with the unexpected increase in their emergency shelter food budget. Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support is a nonprofit organization exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code meaning all donations are tax deductible and you will be emailed a receipt if you go through the fundraising link.

My name is Teesta Kasargod, and I am a junior at the IB World School in Plano, TX. I am also the founder and president of "We Think Feminist" a non-profit organization dedicated empowering women and gender equality. I run this club with my teacher sponsor, Mrs. Cynthia Tomotaki. Karla Budic is my fantastic Vice President who is also advocating along with Shefali Rao (Historian), Avani Bhute (Treasurer), and Tanaz Muhamed (Secretary) who are the incredibly involved officers advocating with us.
It is important that we pay attention to this pressing issue and save lives! That is why "We Think Feminist" finds it imperative to raise funds for Genesis Women's Shelter and make the world a safer place for everyone, even those who believed they had nowhere else to go.
