Story

Go the Extra Mile for Westgate

‘Go the Extra Mile’ is a sponsored event that encourages children to think of a personal challenge or activity that they would like to complete themselves or with their family! This could be anything from completing a physical challenge, helping people in the family or community or committing to learn a new skill!

Of course, this is also open to individual parents / carers too who would like to take on a new challenge for the summer!

Ideas for ‘Go the Extra Mile'

    •    Walk, bike, run or scoot (or hop!) a set distance over a month
    •    Do some gardening for a neighbour or clean your grandparents’ car
    •    Cook a three-course meal or bake every week for your family
    •    Learn a new skill such as knitting, sewing or tying your own shoelaces
    •    Not eat sweets or chocolate for a month!
    •    Feed or walk the family pet every day
    •    Climb a mountain or go on a long walk with the family
    •    Teach yourself to count to 100 in Spanish/German/Arabic etc
    •    Organise a treasure hunt for younger siblings.
    •    Use the stairs in your house to climb the height of a mountain or building over a month, (e.g., Big Ben - 632 stairs, Ben Nevis - 8,810 stairs, Scafell Pike - 6,180 stairs)

We ask that participants complete their challenges by Sunday 6th June at 10pm (extended by a week to include the half term holiday)

There are £10 gift vouchers available as prizes for the best physical, helpful, skillful and most inventive challenges! To be in with a chance of winning a prize, please send an email to extramile@friendsofwestgate.uk by the end, with your name, class and details of your challenge. We would also love to see any photos or videos of you completing your challenge – to be included in a special assembly next term! There will be prizes awarded for the best physical, helpful, skilful and most inventive challenges!

What are we raising money for?

Friends of Westgate are thrilled to have helped the school to pay for the Early Years Playground. Now we want to help the school buy new laptops for all pupils to use.

We look forward to seeing what exciting challenges our Westgate Families come up with - thank you for your support!
