Story
Hello, thank you for visiting my just giving page.
The Royal British Legion, like many charities, is struggling for funds at present and I’ve decided to help them out by doing more than just wearing a poppy.
I was originally going to complete the Legion's 2021 Western Front Trek but this was cancelled owing to the ongoing uncertainty and impact of Covid-19. I am therefore completing my own trek in May 2022, when I’ll be walking about 60 miles over 3 days from my home in Bristol to my brother's grave in Tidworth Military Cemetery with a target of raising £799. If like you feel able to support me, I, The Royal British Legion and the service men and women they support will be very grateful.
So why am I doing this?
- Because they continue to struggle for funds and I want to play my part in raising money for the veterans, service men, women and their families that the Royal British Legion supports. They help to ensure the highest quality of care for those suffering physical and mental issues and help families that need time to reconnect;
- In remembrance of my brother, Pete (see gallery), who was in the army (REME) and died suddenly one Christmas when I was in my teens;
- In remembrance of my Great Uncle Herbert who was killed at Ypres in 1915 (see gallery) – he was killed by artillery fire after enduring a gas attack;
- In remembrance and recognition of all the members of our Armed Forces community, including their partners, children and friends, who make sacrifices on our behalf every day of the year. For the past 100 years, and for the next, the Legion will always ensure our veterans get the support they deserve when they leave the Armed Forces; and
- I’m doing it for me. I need this challenge as a tonic to Covid 19. I’m a firm believer that you help yourself by helping others.
Thank you for any support you can give me – whether that is money or just good wishes - it is really appreciated.
Many thanks
Alan Ed
