“I was not prepared for the scale and complexity of the operations in side a modern neonatal unit, the shear professionalism and care given was astounding!” Lee Bishop
The twin`s followed a similar path to a lot of other premature and sick babies born in the UK with a lot of challenging problems and treatments including.
- Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)
- Hernias
- Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP)
- Blood transfusions
- Platelet transfusion
- Immature lungs (Chronic lung disease)
- Infection
- Brain bleeds
- Reflux
Lee and Toni came into to contact with Bliss during the twins stay in three of the Yorkshires neonatal units at Jessops Wing Sheffield, Barnsley General and The Doncaster Royal Infirmary where the Twins were finally let home after 112 days in three hospitals.
"Bliss were enormously supporting and provided help and advice all the way, we were happy to be part of several studies enabling improvements of treatments in the future” Toni Bishop
One other Westdale staff member that has been effected by a premature birth is Stacey Coward and her partner Jamie Fletcher, Their son George was born on 17/1/2016 at 10 weeks early just weighing 1180g in Barnsley General Hospital, Stacey and Jamie also had fabulous support from Bliss during George’s 39 day stay in Hospital.
