We partner with local people in Zambia to build and develop community schools

Story

I have been persuaded ‘last minute’ to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon by my flatmate who runs an amazing charity called ‘Beyond Ourselves’.

‘Beyond Ourselves’ partners with three community schools in Zambia helping to resource and develop them. Amongst other things they have built much needed classroom blocks and set up feeding programmes at each school. Their child sponsorship programme, which costs £12.50 per month, provides each child with a nutritious meal each school day, a uniform and a weekly visit from a nurse. The sponsorship also contributes to the teachers' and cooks' salaries.

Over the past couple of years the cost of living in Zambia has gone up and the minimum wage has shot up drastically. ‘Beyond Ourselves’ has already invested in training these teachers well and therefore in order to keep them, needs to increase their salaries in line with inflation. This will cost an extra £1800.  The teachers are brilliant with the children and vital to their education and development.

If you are able to support me in this half marathon, my fundraising will go towards these teachers’ salaries.

Thanks for your support.  I really appreciate it.

In partnership with local Zambians we are helping to build and develop community schools in the Copperbelt region for children, mainly orphans, who cannot otherwise afford to go to school. We build classrooms, employ teachers, cooks and a nurse, and our hope is that communities will be transformed.
